Before ever stepping foot into Cycology Studio, the dreamy black-paned windows will have you mesmerized (and stepping back to snap all the photos for your Instagram story – lets be real). Once you actually set foot inside the studio, you are welcomed into an airy space with high ceilings and a drool-worthy brick wall. To your right is a chic lounge area, and to your left is the check-in desk where you immediately lock eyes with all the good, passionate people pouring their hearts and souls into this labor of love.
Once getting yourself checked-in and being handed legit clip-in cycle shoes on the house (say WHAT?!), you make your way back past a minimalist’s dream kind of retail space (where you can get all of your Cyc gear) to a couple benches across from keyless lockers where you can swap out your heels (or Birkenstocks) for your cycle shoes and place your belongings in a locker for safekeep during your ride.
At the very back of the studio are two, white double doors touting, “The Cycologist will see you now.”
You walk through these doors into a cozy studio with stadium riding (meaning there’s no bad seat in the house). Next to the instructor podium are baskets holding various dumbbells – you’ll grab a pair and take them to your chosen bike with you where you’ll place them in the respective cages on either side of the bike’s saddle. Next, you’ll want to setup your bike in the most effective way for your body – one trick is ensuring the saddle is up to hip-height, or raising your knee to draw your thigh parallel to where the saddle should be. Your handle bars should always be at this same height, or lower – depending on both your cycling experience, as well as your core strength. The Cycologists are always around and willing to help ensure your bike is exactly where you need it for the most optimal ride.
Then it begins. The Cycologist will enter and typically have a member of their posse riding podium with them. The lights go out. The room is dimly lit by candlelight and black lights. You immediately feel as if your heartbeat is pulsing to the same rhythmic beat of the music. The elements of heat and humidity make you feel as if you’ve been transported to a little slice of coastal heaven as the sweat starts to drip down onto your bike – little by little at first, but you know this is only the beginning. You will experience tap backs, jumps, sprints, push-ups, oblique crunches and other choreography that either makes you feel like Beyonce, or like you might need to get a bit more in tune with your rhythm – I’ve discovered that whichever you happen to be, it doesn’t really matter – because at the end of the day, both kinds of people are getting a killer workout. Whether you whip your hair back and forth and tap it back like it’s what you were born for, or just do your best to keep up and let the music move through your body and that’s what carries you until the end – you’re welcome here. This is a community that wants you. They’re a community of encouragers. You will be challenged, but the challenge and intensity is your prerogative. You will walk out of that studio soaked in all the sweaty glory, and on an adrenalin high from all the energy poured out into that room.
If for no other reason than the reality that your first class is FREE (yes…you heard me right – FREE) and you get an icy cold aromatherapy towel to melt your face into at the end of class (H-E-A-V-E-N), do yourself a favor and go check out this studio in our community…feel free to blame me when you become an addict.
