At Cycology, we get asked about our music all. the. time. What song was that sprint track? Is that playlist public? Where did you find that remix ? Etc. Etc. Etc. So, I decided to sit down with our in-house music expert (lead instructor) Jamie Drew, and ask her some of the most FAQs from you guys. Let’s get to the bottom of the beats.
Kesha: What genre(s) of music will we find in your playlist?
Jamie: I LOVE all different kinds of music! But my playlists mainly consist of new hit songs, EDM and remixes of songs that most people know and can enjoy. Every now and then I will throw in a good throwback song but for the most part I like my playlists to be brand new music. My favorite part about creating playlists is setting the tone and emotion for the ride that our cycologists will experience. Music is always evolving and I like my playlists to reflect that.
Kesha: How do you find your music?
Jamie: OKAY soooo one of my guilty pleasures in life are movies and television. I have actually found quite a few amazing songs that were featured on a tv show or a movie. I always try and keep my ears open for new music, even if I am walking through a store I am constantly utilizing Siri on my phone if I hear a song I like. But I mainly use Apple Music and Spotify when I am building my playlists.
Kesha: Who are your favorite artists right now?
Jamie: This is going to be all over the place, I truly love so many different kinds of artists and genres of music. Here we go: The Chainsmokers, Frenship, Diplo, Flosstradamus, Skrillex, Kygo, Sam Smith, Ellie Goulding, Lana Del Rey, Sia, John Legend, Ed Sheeran, Alt-J, Linkin Park, and Limp Bizkit. I never really play rock in my classes because it is definitely an acquired taste but I couldn’t leave some of my favorite rock artists off this list 🙂
Kesha: Do you think your playlists reflect your personality? What about your mood?
Jamie: My playlists absolutely reflect my mood and my personality! Music has always been a huge part of my life. I can’t remember a time when we didn’t have music playing in our house when I was growing up. As a dancer, I have to be able to dance and enjoy my playlists and I feel like my riders can feel that when they take my class. I love to dance and have fun on the bike but I also like music that grounds me and makes me think. I try and incorporate those elements in all of my playlists.
Kesha: What is your all time favorite song?
Jamie: Oooooh! This is a hard one. “Heavy” by Linkin Park featuring Kiiara is currently my favorite song out right now. I am such a big Linkin Park fan. They are amazing artists and have so much depth to their music. So I am super happy that they have come out with new music.
Big thanks to our spin DJ! You can check out Jamie’s favorite playlist here.
